What factors do you believe have contributed to your success as a nurse leader?
Speaking out about health inequities and partnering with like-minded people from different fields brings strength in diversity. Speaking with elected officials, lobbyists and legislative aids has been enlightening. Taking a health policy course from a national leader in nurse-midwifery was invaluable. You have to be patient and see the long game.

In your opinion, what strengths do you believe you contribute to your voluntary leadership role?
My training and experience in nursing has given me insight about the lives of individuals and how the healthcare system impacts outcomes. Advocating for individuals is easily translated into advocating for populations.

Please describe your greatest accomplishment during your tenure in this voluntary leadership role.
Helping to develop an integrated system to identify women at risk for having a substance exposed infant and develop a referral system for obtaining treatment services.

Based on your experience, is there any advice that you would like to share with aspiring nurse leaders?
Nurses are respected in the community. People want to hear your opinion. Don't be afraid to speak up and speak out!
