Retention & Recruitment Small Grants Program

We are unable to accept applications at this time. This project will resume when funding is available.

The Florida Center for Nursing believes that to resolve the nursing shortage in our state we must improve the retention of existing nurses in healthcare work settings and promote targeted recruitment into nursing. This includes improving the image of nursing and creating a work environment that supports the practice of nursing. The quality of care delivered is dependent on the skills and knowledge of care providers. The loss of experienced nurses results in a loss of essential skills and knowledge. In order to improve retention of nurses, change must occur where nurses work every day and where the decision whether or not to continue working is made.

The Retention & Recruitment Funded Project Initiative was established to create small grant opportunities including but not limited to research or projects that:

  • Obtain direct input on issues and solutions from high-risk nurse populations
    • Relate to the fostering and retention of first-line managers
    • Support the retention of first-year novice nurses providing direct care
    • Support the retention of the maturing nursing workforce in Florida
  • Support recruitment strategies targeted to qualified applicants who represent the diverse population of Florida and/or increasing the ratio of men in nursing
  • Examine the experiences of first-line managers in retaining and recruiting staff nurses
  • Identify the satisfiers and non-satisfiers for nurses providing direct care
  • Relate to regional successes and challenges of retention and recruitment within Florida
  • Examine the physical work environment and/or the culture of the work environment
  • Relate to nurse recognition programs (i.e. Magnet©, Beacon, Baldrige)
  • Serve as a pilot for long-term or large-scale retention and recruitment initiatives
