The Florida Center for Nursing provides the following as a service to keep you aware of activities to resolve the critical nursing shortage. SUCCEED Florida Nursing Education Grant Program information was obtained directly from each grant recipient. The President's Community-Based Job Training Grant information was obtained from the U.S. Department of Labor Employment & Training Administration website at: http://www.doleta.gov. Any questions, concerns, or requests for validation of information should be directed to the source.

SUCCEED Florida - Nursing Education Grant Program

The SUCCEED Florida-Nursing Education Grant Program is administered through the FL Department of Education and has as its purpose to increase the capacity of nursing programs approved by the Board of Nursing at public and postsecondary educational institutions therefore producing more nurses to enter the workforce in Florida. Funds must be used to support new students and not to supplant current funding or students.

Expected outcomes of the SUCCEED Florida-Nursing Education Grant Program include:

  • 765 new nurses in the workforce
  • 173 new nursing faculty

President's Community-Based Job Training Grants

On October 19, 2005, the U.S. Department of Labor awarded $125 million to 70 community colleges competing for the President's Community-Based Job Training Grants. These grants support workforce training for high growth industries through the nation's community and technical colleges. Projects receiving funding cover industries ranging from health care and construction to advanced manufacturing and energy. Of the 70 grants awarded, 38 targeted the health care industry, and five of those grants were awarded to organizations in Florida.
